Have you ever seen a kid die of whooping cough? Have you seen the Jenny McCarthy body count? Anti-vax = epidemic

    • Peter Parkour August 19, 2012 at 5:04 pm

First, thanks for stopping in, AJ, and for taking the time to comment. I’ve never seen a child (vaccinated or not) die from anything, and I hope I never do. Epidemic = more than usual.

Of the 48.5 million people that contract pertussis (whooping cough) each year, 295,000 die. That’s 0.6082474226804124%. The number of people affected by pertussis worldwide is a much, much smaller fraction. Most of the people affected live in overly populated areas, under very poor living conditions. Such living conditions would increase the likelihood of catching and dieing from any number of diseases.

With that in mind, maybe we should be more concerned with raising the living standards of people instead of using them as human guinea pigs. A stronger immune system can be gained by staying in shape, avoiding stress, getting good sleep, and maintaining a healthy diet assuring an intake of vital nutrients and vitamins. On top of that, avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics and vaccines.

It is a serious subject no doubt, but fear mongering is never the answer. People should make informed decisions. They should do their own research; get to know both sides of the story and make their own educated choice.

There’s nothing wrong with knowing what goes into vaccines. I want to know what is going into my body. I want to know the risks. There are adverse effects from vaccines including death in some cases. People need to know these things.

Below is a link provided by, Bunny, on the subject. 😉

Below is a link you might like to consider. The fear mongering comes from the anti-vax crowd, not the other side. The information they provide is a pack of lies. But hey, their kids won’t have autism. *rolls eyes*

Thanks for the link, AJ. There’s fear mongering on both sides of the isle. Being aware of the facts on both sides is the best way to go. To let someone else make your mind up for you, isn’t making a decision at all, much less an informed one.

I’m not telling anyone what choice to make. I’m just putting some little know information out there, and letting people know that there is more to life than just going with the flow. I say question everything; including yourself. A Google search or trip to Wikipedia does not constitute research, but it’s a start. People should be well informed and involved.

Thanks again, AJ, for furthering the conversation.

Oh, I would so be having a rough time of it right now if I were raising children. I would be second guessing every one of these recommended vaccines and treatments for my children. After the research I’ve done, I worry more about the things we don’t know and yes, that includes recommendations from doctors. I have to remember that they can only say and do certain things sanctioned by their work environs, the government and licensing bodies. And the way the vaccines are being made these days with no liability on the part of the manufacturer does scare me. My children would not be someone’s guinea pig, I can tell you that. We are still learning today that ingesting fluoride (as in the fluoridated water systems) can actually cause bone cancer in children (as opposed to just applying it to the teeth). But I don’t think people need to get up in arms over how other people decide to raise their children. If someone wants to vaccinate their child then fine, I understand and hope they are making the best informed decision they can make. And they should respect my decision not to do so – they should not have to worry about their child catching anything from mine if they have vaccinated theirs, right? Plus, what it comes down to is the freedom of choice. I sure hope I don’t see that disappear completely in this country in my lifetime.

Well said, Teeni, on every point. People need to be able to weigh the positives and negatives on both sides and make the best educated choice for themselves. Where you said “they should not have to worry about their child catching anything from mine if they have vaccinated theirs, right?” sounded just like a conversation between Bunny and I last night. 🙂

Australia has routinely added fluoride to water without a plethora of bone cancer cases in children. I find it amusing how people think doctors are strong armed by the buzz words “big pharma” or buy into these mad ass conspiracies but they will believe a pseudo doctor, such as “Dr” Mercola and his ridiculous lies about vaccinations. Has anyone ever wondered about the “natural health” industry and the fortune they rake in on “natural” medications? It’s far easier to believe doctors are ‘teh evil’

I do agree about choice in vaccination. If you don’t want your child vaccinated, please homeschool it or join an Amish community. If you want your snowflake to mix with the general public, please be responsible.

We’re just going to have to agree to disagree on some topics, AJ, because I don’t have the time or energy to continue this conversation. Anyone else is welcome to take up the cause if they feel the need. Just remember to play nice, everyone.

  4. Teeni August 31, 2012 at 8:01 am

AJ has some good points about fear-mongering. Dr. Mercola does irritate me with most of his headlines and articles and you have to remember that he is selling products, so yes, the natural remedies market is something you have to research, as with anything. Although I’m glad he has not seen a surge of bone cancers where he lives, that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. The flouride in the water risk at 5x especially for boys is statistically significant. http://www.ewg.org/release/harvard-study-strong-link-between-fluoridated-water-and-bone-cancer-boys. But again, if a child is vaccinated then an unvaccinated child should not be a risk to him or her so the argument to homeschool the unvaccinated child makes no sense (or just shows a lack in the faith in the vaccinations ability to do what they are supposed to do). I don’t think doctors are evil at all. But I do think they have constraints on them and liabilities to consider. Also, doctors whether in natural health care or conventional health care, have usually concentrated their studies and a good one will admit that he does not know everything about the human body and/or how all our systems work together. This means he is willing to continue to learn. Beware a doctor who thinks he knows everything and what is best for you, without question. This could be an indicator that they are stuck in their way of thinking or what they were taught and are not willing to evolve with new information that becomes apparent all the time. They are only human and make mistakes too. To sum, I don’t think people should make decisions out of fear (Mercola article type of fear-mongering) or peer pressure (conventional health’s version of fear-mongering), just the best informed ones they can make. So we do need to hear facts from all sides, not just opinions. And then we need to be able to make a choice. I’m sure the parents of these girls would agree. http://www.wnd.com/2008/06/68454/

Teeni, fluoride in water is harmless. A ‘study’ is not a conclusion. There are ‘studies’ that suggest being a vegan does a child more harm than good. I’m sure the owner of this site would disagree with the study, and so he should. Also, the Wing Nut Daily is not the best tool to bring to an intelligent debate.

Simply do not let anybody stick a needle in you period. Even acupuncture. People don’t stick needles in other people.

Ha-ha! I love this comment, S-Man. 😛 The little voice in my head says “yes, you are right, sir”. 😉

Ever notice how most studies don’t end up with conclusive evidence? Nobody wants to put their ass on the line. But rather than call names, I will look at most data that is available to make the best informed decisions I can. And I have to disagree that fluoride in water is harmless. I will give you that fluoride applied directly to the teeth may actually be beneficial but not so much having it forced into the water supply.

Ah, Teeni, my voice of reason when I’m short on time. This comment sums up my feelings perfectly. Making decisions based on all available information; not just the most popular study or the one that the government stands behind. Right there with you on the fluoride too. The dentist has you swish with it and then spit, not swallow. On your toothpaste it says to call poison control if you swallow it. So why on earth would you want it in your water? Thank you for picking up my slack. 😉

But do keep providing the silly. It’s entertaining.

      • Peter Parkour September 14, 2012 at 11:50 am

AJ, you’re welcome to provide links, make points, site facts and the like, but please keep the colorful commentary to yourself; no matter how subtle. Please and thank you. Your views are always welcome here, but I want to keep the conversation as friendly as possible.

I would also recommend that anyone joining in on the conversation make specific points when offering up a link. I’m sure I’m not the only one uninterested in reading the entire contents of a website in search of an specified point the provider of said link was trying to get at.

  8. AJ September 14, 2012 at 8:19 pm

Oh, I see. You would like points that enhance your viewpoint. I was merely offering the truth about the insane notion that fluoride is responsible for bone cancer or whatever other ailments some seem to think it causes. If you do not want honesty in this discourse, fine.
If you only want the POV of the anti-vax crowd, also, fine. The crowd you cater to on this website have their minds made up.
By the way, I do enjoy the majority of the offerings you post and I have passed them on to several online and in r/l friends. You post some excellent and thought provoking information.
I will bow out of this particular debate as it is pointless to continue.
    Go well in life. 🙂

    • Peter Parkour September 14, 2012 at 8:53 pm

AJ, it would seem you are only hearing what you want to hear, or in this case assuming that I am saying something that somehow puts you in a box (I hope I’m not doing the same now). First off I was only requesting that you cease and desist with the use of such words/phrases that others may take offense to (wing-nut, silly, insane…). Next I was asking that anyone (ANYONE) offering up links do so with direction to the specific information they are trying to share, presumably to prove/make a point. The latter was to help with the back and forth conversation, communication, debate… To just throw out a link as a response is like tossing someone an encyclopedia and saying “it’s all there in black and white”. No point is made and communication comes to and end (in many cases).

If you agree with much of what I put forth here, then I’m sure you would agree that not all studies are fair and balanced, that not every thing the government says is fact and not every suggestion they have is in your best interest. While I do have my own views, often times I will offer up information to be taken at face value by the viewer. Facts are simply facts and to be well informed on all sides is the first step in making a well informed choice. That choice is yours to make. Wanting to debate issues is good, healthy and encouraged; given all participants play nice. That’s all I really ask for around here.

Anyway, whether you want to continue with this hot topic or not is up to you, but I hope you continue to come back for the “thought provoking information” and continue to share it. There is no such thing as perfect; there will always be disagreements. What works for you may not work for me. Your number one priority may be last on my list. We can’t let our differences stand in the way of all we have in common. Again, I offer up “agreeing to disagree”. No names, no judgement. Next topic. 😉

      Love, Peace & Understanding

Love, peace and understanding to you too, Peter. Agreed, next topic. 🙂
