Sorry, a gross mischaracterization of the reality facing Israel. The whole arab population of the middle-east would exterminate Israel if the U.S. and Britain (with its allies) ever withdrew support for Israel. These other arab nations are using the Palestinians as fodder and foils to irritate Israel and to hide behind as they launch their cowardly attacks against Israel.
If the overwhelmingly wealthy arab nations had any real love for the Palestinians they would bring them into their countries as the brothers they should be and help everyone there live in peace. How often do you see Saudi Arabia help out other muslim countries when there is a disaster. No, I guess that is up to Americans…
Further, Carlos Latuff (the cartoonist)is well known for his stance.

No easy answer here, only facts and comparisons. Considering how the state of Israel came about, I find it hard to believe there will be peace there any time soon. Israel has only been around since 1948 at which point their state came into being by taking over a majority of the Palestinian people’s country (with help from Britain and the USA) and leaving what they had left fragmented and their people displaced. The day after Israel was officially a state it came under attack (gee, I wonder why?) and has been under attack off and on since.

Imagine for a moment if you will that Japan took pity on the Aboriginal people of Australia due to their treatment by the new British colonies. To fix the problem Japan rounds up all of the Aborigines, takes them to Florida. Once there the Japanese order a majority of the Floridians to pack up and move, because they are giving the land to the Aborigines. The Floridians are told they can keep most of the panhandle and the Florida Keys, but everything else was now lost to them. Add to that restriction of movement and access to resources, goods and services. People in the Keys would be cut off from their families in the north. Yeah, it’s kind of like that in my mind’s eye.

The cartoon may be a bit of an exaggeration, but hey, it’s a cartoon. It’s supposed to express/evoke thoughts, ideas and emotions, and yeah, chances are those will be one-sided. Such is the world of politics and political cartoons.

There is a lot of hate and anger in that region fueled by two apposing “peace loving” religions and “war loving” governments. There will need to be some major shifts in thinking and value recognition in order for peace to find its way in. I wish I had some answers or at least a better understanding of the whole situation, but since I live in a society that mainly shows only one side of the story, and even that side isn’t explained well, I’m gonna have to leave it all up in the air. Like I said, there are no easy answers. Even reliable facts are hard to come by. It’s a bad situation no matter how you look at it.

I hope the best for all of the people in the middle east and the rest of the world. I shall continue to think globally, while acting locally and spreading my message of love and peace as far as the interwebs will carry it.
