Conversations with Great Minds: Tom Shadyac

I’m posting this video because of the first half, but it’s all worth watching.  I’m looking forward to seeing Shadyac’s film “I AM”.  If you’ve seen it already I would love to hear your thoughts.  🙂

Renowned director and filmmaker, Tom Shadyac joins Thom for the first half hour of “Conversations with Great Minds”. They discuss how his love for film-making and how a very difficult experience led him to make a seminal documentary about some of the biggest challenges facing the world. In the second half of the show, Thom discusses the House’s decision to pass Speaker Boehner’s budget plan in the Weekly Rumble.

And here’s the trailer for “I AM”:

Oh!  And an awesome followup interview:

Government: Earth

October 2nd

As if the month of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month wasn’t good enough, October 2nd is the International Day of Non-Violence.  Could it be a coincidence that October 2nd is also Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday?  I think not.  😉

Be the change you want to see in the world.

The future depends on what we do in the present.

Is a world without violence such a hard thing to imagine?  We have far more in common than our disagreements would lead us to believe. We all want to be respected. We all want to be loved. We all want to be part of something. The good news? We are all a part of something; the human race. Now all that’s left to do is love and respect one another.  Violence?  Not even a part of the equation.

Christianity:

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

.

Buddhism:

“Putting oneself in the place of another, one should not kill nor cause another to kill.”

.

Confucianism:

“Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.”

.

Hinduism:

“One should never do that to another which one regards as injurious to one’s own self.”

.

Islam:

“Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.”

.

Judaism:

“The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love him as yourself.”

.

Taoism:

“Regard your neighbor’s gain as your own gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss.”

.

Rodney King:

“Can’t we all just get along?”

.

Nothing to it, but to do it.  No more verbal hobbies.  We all need to put these words into action.  Be kind to one another, respect each other and love one another.  Now go play nice.  🙂

Happy Birthday Gandhi!

Time To Stand Up

Amazing Speech By War Veteran

Open your ears and your eyes, and when the time is right, your mouth.  Be aware of what is going on around you, and don’t just go along with the masses, speak your mind, speak from your heart, but be sure you are speaking with feeling and not with emotion.  Often time things will evoke emotion from us, but not necessarily well thought out sentences.

Republicans Against Science?

How TV Ruined Aspiration

Comedian Charlie Brooker uses a mix of sketches and jaw-dropping archive footage to explore the gulf between reality and television. Warning: contains Sophie Dahl and coffins.  <—  Blurb copied and pasted from YouTube.  See what TV’s done to my aspiration?  😛
