Cowspiracy

Cowspiracy Poster

I recently asked myself “what is THE go to documentary regarding the environment?” and I didn’t have an answer.

If animal welfare is a motivating factor in your life, I would strongly suggest watching the film “Earthlings”.  If your health, or the health of your loved ones is your priority, “Forks Over Knives” would be my recommendation.

But what about the environment specifically?  Well, someone must have heard me ask the question, because shortly there after (the next day) the answer landed in my lap (laptop actually).  After watching it, there was no doubt in my mind, this was THE documentary I was looking for.

So, if living green is your goal, helping to revive our depleted oceans, putting an end to deforestation, stopping the extinction of countless species, or just shrinking your carbon footprint, the documentary that opened my eyes wider than ever before is “Cowspiracy”.  It gets my highest rating and I recommend it to everyone.

On Jan. 15th, 2011, “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward” was released theatrically to sold out crowds in 60 countries; 31 languages; 295 cities and 341 Venues. It has been noted as the largest non-profit independent film release in history.

SYNOPSIS: Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a feature length documentary work which will present a case for a needed transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs the entire world society. This subject matter will transcend the issues of cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core, empirical “life ground” attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social paradigm called a “Resource-Based Economy”.

Processed People

Forks Over Knives

Focusing on research by two food scientists, this documentary reveals that despite broad advances in medical technology, the popularity of animal-based and modern processed foods have led to epidemic rates of obesity, diabetes and other diseases.

Above is the blurb from Netflix, where I watched this film on demand.  If you don’t have access to Netflix, try Amazon Prime or some other streaming movie service.  If none of those are an option, try checking with your local library.  If they don’t have it, request that they get it.  ;)   Below is the trailer.

Zeitgeist: The Movie

This film is considered quite controversial by some, factually flawed by others, and a representation of what’s wrong with the world today by many.  The film’s creator, Peter Joseph, explains what the movie is and is not in this interview.  I think “Zeitgeist: The Movie” is a great source of food for thought and conversation no matter which camp you find yourself in.  I’m also including this link to the 220 page PDF file “Zeitgeist: The Movie Companion Source Guide” for those of you interested in sources and research of your own.
