There is one basic issue you have not addressed, it is the same issue we face with minimum wage increases here. If you raise the minimum wage, you in turn devalue the currency, so now the minimum wage can no longer be worth enough to purchase the things necessary for a livable wage and must be increased again and again, all you do is cause inflation. This is basic economics. Money only has value based on its scarcity, if there is no demand, then money has no value. the issue must be resolved though the distribution of goods such as food, shelter, clothing etc. not money. the only way to do this is through the elimination of certain markets in the economy related to essential services. Of course this means the repealing of private property and the nationalization of certain sectors of the economy and we all know what this leads to. Governments can’t be trusted to serve the people and it would be wiser for them to exclude themselves from the economy all together, the longest consistent period of peace in any county was in China, during the period when the emperors were forbidden to participate in any economic endeavor. Your solution is nothing more than a watered down version of communism and history has taught us that this will always fail. The problem of economics disparity is very real, but clinging to failed ideologies are not the solution. In order to conquer these problems we need a new way of thinking and an economic philosophy which does not view human beings as resources to be disposed of in some fashion. Capitalism and communism both view the world in the same way, what we need is a new way of thinking.
Thanks for stopping in, MAC, and for taking the time to leave a comment. This post was meant to be food for thought, not the end-all-be-all answer to the problem at hand. I wanted to highlight the issue, concern and this alternative option being floated around. In my mind, a better option would be to make these bare necessities free to all. That would be an amazing stepping stone to a brighter future for all. Thanks again for your thoughts on this matter. 🙂
