But you see Peter, that was part of what old line Christianity dealt with. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
People learned to respect and fear God’s power and to respect his fellow man. It was implied that you do for others first with the hope of receiving kindness and respect back.
What has developed in the U.S. over the past two centuries is Christianity in name only. Capitalism is the religion now and money is the god. Money is an unforgiving, whorish false god that has been connected to Christianity. No wonder atheists abound.
I think it has less to do with religion or lack there or, and more to do with the indoctrination of consumerism that takes place from birth and continues on till death in our society. No wonder there are money worshipers abound. Whatever your level of faith or lack of faith, it’s a wonder any of us have half a mind of our own to make every day basic decisions with. Even those of us aware of the box are still stuck inside; some trying to reenforce the integrity of the box, while others are trying to find a way out.
