I’ve been seeing this meme everywhere I go as of late. It is my understanding that we have Little Miss to thank for this. The original quote from Little Miss’ creation is “What song is your favorite that pulls at your heart strings any time you hear it?”
From the first time I saw this meme in circulation over at Wendy’s I immediately had a song in mind. Now all I had to do was make the effort to type this out. Easier said than done as it turns out. I’ve been in a bit of a funk for quite some time now, so I’ve been doing little to no writing, leaving my blog to stay afloat with the help of my Crazy Pix and the occasional video.
Then a few days later I notice that someone had linked to my blog, so I follow it back to the source. It turns out that Curious C over at Idea Jump! has also joined in on the “Insight Into My Heart Meme” madness, and on top of that she’s dedicated her song choice “Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses” by Kathy Mattea, to me. I was very touched and moved.
In her comments I mentioned “I’ve been giving some thought to doing this musical meme. You’ve got me thinking about it again”. In return she said “Welcome! I hope you do post on this meme. I’m so glad you like the song”. This was from back on August 4th, and here I am just barely getting around to it. Better late than never I guess.
Without further jibber-jabber I present to you the song that brings me to tears every time I hear it:
“Where’ve You Been?” by Kathy Mattea
“Where’ve You Been?” by Kathy Mattea (lyrics)
Claire had all but given up
When she and Edwin fell in love
She touched his face and shook her head
In disbelief, she sighed and said
“In many dreams I’ve held you near
Now, at last, you’re really here”
Where’ve you been?
I’ve looked for you forever and a day
Where’ve you been?
I’m just not myself when you’re away
He asked her for her hand for life
And she became a salesman’s wife
He was home each night by eight
But one stormy evening, he was late
Her frightened tears fell to the floor
Until his key turned in the door
Where’ve you been?
I’ve looked for you forever and a day
Where’ve you been?
I’m just not myself when you’re away
They’d never spent a night apart
For sixty years she heard him snore
Now they’re in a hospital
In separate beds on different floors
Claire soon lost her memory
Forgot the names of family
She never spoke a word again
Then one day, they wheeled him in
He held her hand and stroked her hair
In a fragile voice she said
Where’ve you been?
I’ve looked for you forever and a day
Where’ve you been?
I’m just not myself when you’re away
No, I’m just not myself when you’re away
It’s no coincidence that this song and one of my categories share the same name, “Where’ve You Been?” It’s where I share all of my travels around the country.
I chose a Kathy Mattea song just like Curios C did, but I assure you this is pure coincidence. Truth be told I didn’t even know who sang this song until I went looking for it. For most of my life I’ve always been content enjoying music on the radio, not concerning myself with who the singer was. I never liked the Beatles until I realized they sung some of the songs I liked. I’m such a dork.
Anyway, there you have it, an insight into my heart. I won’t be tagging anyone with this meme, because for the most part I’m just not into playing tag. I would however like to dedicate this song to a few people:
I would like to start by dedicating this song to Curios C because I know she’s a Kathy Mattea fan, and on the off chance she’s not familiar with this song I hope she likes it.
Next I would like to dedicate this song to Joan Harvest and Michael (Smoke and Mirrors). Due to a recent post and comments (takes place over at The Nook of Oz) made therein I just felt it was appropriate.
I would also like to dedicate this song to my mom for having shared it with me all those years ago.
And last but not least, I would like to dedicate this song to my sweet, loving, angel of a wife with whom I’m just not the same when she’s away.

BARACK OBAMA, The President Of The United States Of America
"Has anyone seen my panties?"
"Has anyone seen my rude little pig, er, um, I mean my daughter?"
"Hey, does anyone want to go out after the show for burgers and drinks?"
"Pssst... hey O. J.... you're a piece of SHIT!!!"
"You could be."
