My movie picks are not based on reviews. They’re simply movies that I would like to see. I’m not even giving them ratings. I’m just saying they look interesting to me. In the even I do see said movies, I’ll let you know what I thought. The following is a list of movies coming out in May that I would like to see:
In theaters Friday, May 2nd
I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of “Iron Man” (rated PG-13) for quite a while now, and I plan on going to see it this Friday. What’s it about: a rich alcoholic know for making weapons of mass destruction grows a conscience, and then focuses all his efforts on building a weapon of mass protection, his Iron Man suit. Think Batman, with a drinking problem, and way more technically advanced gadgets (lasers, rockets, explosives, the ability to fly, etc.). Iron Man is based on the comic book (like most of my favorite movies) of the same name. What more can you ask for?
Here’s a movie I never heard of (I live in a truck, don’t look too surprised) until I started writing this post. “Redbelt” (rated R) is a movie loosely based on popular fighting spectacles such as “The Ultimate Fighting Championship“. Randy Couture (a legendary fighter) even has a part in the movie. From the little I’ve seen the movie delves into fighting techniques, strategies, and philosophies. Mike Terry’s (the main character) personal morals and beliefs are put to the test when a twist of fate forces him to make decisions that will effect the rest of his life. This movie appears to have potential, but I think I’ll wait for it to come out on DVD.
In theaters Friday, May 9th
I was looking forward to the release of “Speed Racer” (rated PG) up until I saw the first trailer, and then I became skeptical. It looked a bit too much like a video game, and the Mach 5 (Speed’s car) had undergone some strange mutation, or was that the Mach 6??? I did see the original car (the Mach 5: my dream car), but still what gives? I still want to see it, but I fear seeing my childhood dreams twitted and perverted on the big screen. Decisions, decisions. Perhaps I’ll wait to hear what friends and family say before deciding to shell out the big bucks, or waiting for the DVD.
In theaters Friday, May 16th
“The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” (not rated at this time) appears to have “good flick” potential written all over it, being the second Narnia movie (The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe being the first). I loved the first movie in many of it’s incarnations, but I never read the book, and I must admit, I never actually finished watching the most recent incarnation. For shame. I don’t remember the reason, but I’m sure it couldn’t be helped. I will be sure to watch it in it’s entirety before embarking on the latest adventure, Prince Caspian. This latest installment from the world of Narnia is the continued adventures from the first. Either you know Narnia or you don’t. If you don’t, I suggest you start with the first movie and decide for yourself. Prince Caspian falls into the adventure/family/fantasy genre, if that helps any.
