Calling All Readers: “MATURE BLOGS” Dilemma

February 3, 2008

pen.jpgThe topic is “mature blogs”. Just because a blog is marked “mature” doesn’t make it a porn site. Political topics, current events, insight into someone’s life, and anything else you can imagine, can still be found at a “mature” blog. They may even cover topics more to your liking, if you are an adult.

So what’s the point? Once a blog is marked as mature you can no longer find it via tags, not including pre “mature” status posts. You can’t even find their new posts via search engines. So unless you already knew about them, you’re chances of finding them are slim to none.

I’m writing this post in hopes of raising awareness. Anyone’s blog could receive the mature mark, and there goes everyone else’s chance of finding your blog, the blog, with the story, written just for them.

What I would like to have happen is for readers to start contacting WordPress via this link (scroll to the bottom, topic = mature blogs, you fill in the body, tags = mature blogs, and suggestions). It’s where you go to make suggestions. If you have a suggestion for WordPress that would help the “mature” blogs live happier, healthier lives, please let them know. Mature blogs need love too.

Here was my idea. Make it like over at YouTube where they have a page pop up warning of “mature” content, and if you’re still interested, they sign up and say “let me in” and boom, you’re in there.

Another idea is to make it a toggle switch in the dashboard, kind of like what Google has. If you don’t want your results to be filtered, you turn the filter off. It’s as easy as that.

If you have any better ideas, let them know, or feel free to copy and paste my idea, and send it to WordPress, or just tell them “something” should be done. Let them figure out what that something is. The point is, the more people they hear from, the better it will be for everyone, both bloggers and readers alike.

Thank you for your time, and I’m hoping your cooperation.
