I Am Legend

I saw the movie “I Am Legend” Sunday, in IMAX no less. It was my first/last IMAX experience. A bit too pricey for my budget, but sill, it was pretty cool. “I Am Legend” turned out to be a good choice for my one and only IMAX fling.

It was my understanding that “I Am Legend” was based on the movie “The Omega Man”, but it turns out I was wrong/misinformed. “I Am Legend” was actually based on the 1954 novel “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson. The movie “The Omega Man” which came out in 1971 was also based on the novel, as was the 1964 movie “The Last Man On Earth”.

Anyway, the movie “I Am Legend” was pretty good. It had me jumping, ducking, and pinned back in my seat. This was a far better movie than “The Omega Man”, which happens to be one of my brother-in-law’s favorite movies. If he hasn’t seen this movie yet, I’m gonna tell him it’s a must see.

For the rest of you, if you are into action/horror/sci-fi movies, then this movie is for you, but if you’re not, you still might like it. The storyline was very good, as was the action, and the acting, with only one plot-hole that stuck out in my mind. I’d have to give the movie four and a half out of five stars.

What’s it about? It follows the life of one man, immune to a virus that has devastated New York City, and his attempts to find a cure for the infected. Those that weren’t killed by the virus were turned into vampire-like monsters, which only come out at night to feed.

Robert Neville (Will Smith) spends his days with his trusty sidekick, Sam, a German Shepard, running tests in his lab, watching DVD’s from the local video store, and stocking up on supplies to continue his struggle. Outside of Sam, his only other friends are mannequins in the city. Hey, it gets lonely after three years of being the only man alive.

Hope I haven’t ruined the movie for you. It really is a good movie. I don’t endorse too many movies, so you know I’m convinced. If it sound like your kind of movie, go check it out, or at the very least, rent it when it comes out on DVD. You’re in for a treat either way.
